UT Tyler appoints Taylor White as new baseball head coach

Eight‑year assistant steps into lead role after record‑breaking program success

The University of Texas at Tyler announced this week that Taylor White will take the helm of its baseball program, elevating the longtime assistant to the role of head coach.

A new era for Patriots baseball

White spent eight seasons as associate head coach, building a reputation for an elite baseball mind, relentless recruiting and a commitment to forging strong relationships with student‑athletes.

Under his guidance the Patriots have reached back‑to‑back NCAA Division II College World Series appearances and set a program record with 50 victories during the 2026 season, finishing 50‑14 and capturing both the Lone Star Conference regular‑season and tournament titles.

His impact extends beyond the win column; he has helped develop numerous professional players and earned All‑American honors for several of his charges.

Before joining UT Tyler, White spent three years at Tyler Junior College, leading the Apaches to two NJCAA National Championships and earning ABCA National Assistant Coach of the Year honors after the 2018 season.

He also played collegiately at the University of Houston, where he finished his career with a .273 batting average.

White credited his mentor, Brent Porche, for much of the program’s recent success, noting the profound influence of that relationship on his coaching philosophy.

The university community looks forward to seeing how White will build on this momentum and continue to elevate the Patriots program.
