Laversay Taylor, an Early County alumnus, has stepped into the role of head football coach after six seasons guiding the school’s girls track team.
His appointment marks a homecoming for a coach who once doubted he could lead the football program, now eager to restore the standards he experienced as a player at Standifer Stadium.
A Family‑Centric Vision for the Program
Taylor’s first move was to retain his older brother, Clarence Taylor, as defensive coordinator, reinforcing a family‑driven approach that he says will anchor the team’s culture.
He has assembled a staff that includes mentors Joel Harvin and Frank Killingsworth, drawing on experiences that shaped his coaching philosophy.
Taylor stresses that player development extends beyond the field, focusing on preparation for life after sports and fostering standards of hard work and responsibility.
The program’s recent history is impressive: Early County has captured four consecutive region championships, a streak Taylor hopes to extend.
With the new coaching duo in place, the school aims to blend tradition with a forward‑looking philosophy that prioritizes family, discipline and holistic growth.
