Jersey FA and Autism Jersey launch sensory kits for autistic fans

New sensory bags aim to make football matches more accessible and enjoyable for autistic spectators

Sensory kits bring calm to the stands

The Jersey Football Association and Autism Jersey have unveiled a new programme that equips autistic supporters with sensory kits designed to ease the sensory overload of live football.

Each kit contains ear defenders to dampen crowd noise, a soft sensory ball for tactile engagement and a selection of fidget toys that help regulate stimulation.

Tim Pryor, CEO of the Jersey FA, said the association is committed to making football accessible for all, and that the sensory bags are a practical step toward that goal.

Lesley Harrison of Autism Jersey explained that many autistic individuals find the atmosphere of a match overwhelming, and that the kits aim to provide a safe, calming environment.

The bags will be handed out to local clubs and some will remain at Springfield Stadium, the home ground of the Jersey FA, ensuring that fans can enjoy the game without sensory distress.

The initiative is expected to broaden participation, allowing more autistic children and adults to experience the excitement of live football in a supportive setting.
