Solway Ice Hockey Club Secures Future of Scottish League Hockey in Dumfries

New ownership group promises a competitive roster and community focus after council bans previous operators

A New Era for Ice Hockey in Dumfries

The Dumfries and Galloway Council has given the green light to a new organisation that will take over the operation of an ice‑hockey team in the town, ensuring that top‑level hockey will continue beyond the current season.

The club will be known as Solway Ice Hockey Club and is slated to compete in the National Ice Hockey League’s national division starting with the 2026/27 campaign, a move welcomed by the league’s officials.

The decision follows the council’s expulsion of DJR Sport Ltd from the Dumfries Ice Bowl after a payment dispute, clearing the way for fresh leadership.

Gary McCracken, one of the newly appointed board directors, said the group is committed to building a competitive roster while maintaining strong ties with the local community.

Joining McCracken are entrepreneurs Jamie Crosbie, Santiago Buesa and Charlie Shaw, who share a vision of a stable, ambitious and community‑driven future for ice hockey in the region.

The National Ice Hockey League expressed satisfaction that a Scottish franchise will continue to operate out of the Ice Bowl, highlighting the importance of regional representation.

With the new ownership structure in place, fans can expect a re‑energised squad and initiatives aimed at growing participation and sponsorship across Dumfries and Galloway.
