The Mississippi State baseball program is undergoing a significant reshuffle as it prepares for the 2027 season. With twelve players having entered the transfer portal and seven newcomers already secured, the Bulldogs are actively shaping a roster that can compete at the highest level.
Among the recent additions are South Dakota State third baseman Nolan Grawe, who posted a .310 batting average with seven home runs, 49 RBIs and 50 runs scored last year, and South Alabama right‑hander Jaxon Shineflew, who compiled a 4.25 ERA and struck out 63 batters. Both athletes bring proven collegiate experience that should bolster the team's offensive and pitching depth.
Needs on the mound and in the field
Coaching staff remain focused on filling a few critical gaps. The team is still in pursuit of an additional relief pitcher, an infielder, and potentially a catcher and outfielder, the latter contingent on how the MLB draft unfolds. These positions are viewed as essential to rounding out a balanced lineup and a more flexible bullpen.
The departure list includes several notable names. Seven of the twelve outgoing transfers have already committed to new programs, with Charlie Foster heading to Ole Miss, Tyler Pitzer joining South Carolina, and others finding homes at institutions such as Coastal Carolina, TCU, NC State and Southeastern Louisiana. The remaining uncommitted players — Dane Burns, Chris Billingsley Jr., Nick Frontino, Charlie Wortham and Jackson Logar — are still exploring their options.
Beyond the roster moves, the program benefits from strong institutional support. Mississippi State University, South Dakota State University, the University of South Alabama, Army West Point, the University of Memphis, the University of South Carolina, Ole Miss, Texas Christian University, North Carolina State University, Southeastern Louisiana University and Coastal Carolina University all remain key partners in the athletes' academic and athletic development.
