Eagles clinch series, reach 30 wins
Morehead State’s baseball squad delivered a masterful performance on Friday night, as five of its pitchers combined to limit Tennessee Tech to just six hits, paving the way for a 4‑3 win that clinched the series and marked the Eagles’ thirtieth victory of the season.
The pitching staff showed depth and poise, with Landon Waugh opening the game by allowing only one run over two innings, Kam Hawks navigating three middle frames while surrendering two runs, and the late‑game trio of Sam Smith, Jacob Vanover and Cole Wells shutting out the opposition for the final five innings.
Key moments and standout performances
Offensively, the Eagles capitalized on timely hits. Alex Kean sparked the offense with a two‑out double in the second, Austyn Peak added his second homer of the year, and Davis Germann and Aubrey Kearns each ripped doubles in the third, setting up Jaden Correa’s RBI single that plated Kearns. Connor Crowson’s two‑run blast in the fourth capped a rally that put the team ahead.
The win not only lifted Morehead State to fifth place in the OVC and kept alive a chance at the fifth seed for the upcoming tournament, it also underscored a historic milestone: the first series victory at Tennessee Tech since 2022. With the regular season winding down on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, the Eagles remain focused on finishing strong.
