Trinidad Chambliss Returns to Lead Ole Miss in 2026
The NCAA's recent decision to grant a temporary injunction has cleared the way for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to suit up for Ole Miss in the upcoming 2026 college football season, a move that reshapes the Rebels' offensive outlook.
Last year the Rebels boasted the second‑most potent attack in the nation, averaging 36.9 points and nearly 490 yards per game, and they hope to replicate that success with Chambliss at the helm.
The offense will be bolstered by a fresh crop of receivers — including Horatio Fields, Darrell Gill, Cameron Miller and Jase Matthews — while star running back Kewan Lacy, who amassed 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2025, is expected to remain a central pillar.
Defensively, Ole Miss finished the previous season ranked 49th nationally and has addressed the unit's shortcomings by adding transfer portal talent such as Blake Purchase, Jordan Renaud, Joenel Aguero, Keaton Thomas and Edwin Joseph.
The schedule places a marquee matchup against Vanderbilt on October 10 in Nashville, a game that could serve as a litmus test for the Rebels' title aspirations.
If Chambliss delivers on his promise, analysts project the team could finish with eight or nine wins, potentially earning a berth in a major bowl game, even though the SEC title remains out of reach.
