Midwest Sculptors Turn Soccer into Public Art in Blue Springs

Four World Cup‑inspired sculptures installed across the city invite residents to celebrate the sport through art

Glory Awaits: Soccer Meets Public Art in Blue Springs

Blue Springs, Missouri, has turned its streets into a temporary gallery that celebrates the global appeal of soccer. The city’s World Cup‑themed exhibition, titled "Glory Awaits," features four large‑scale works by Midwestern sculptors, each interpreting the sport through metal, steel and kinetic forms.

Mitchell Hoffman, a Denver‑based artist, contributed "The Civic Sphere," a polished steel soccer ball sited directly in front of City Hall, symbolizing communal gathering. Clark Martinek, hailing from Mitchell, South Dakota, crafted "Out of the Blue," a dynamic bronze figure of a female player striking a ball at the Hidden Valley Park Soccer Complex. Ryan Pederson of Mankato, Minnesota, created the pair "Aerial Duel" and "Guardian of the Goal," which capture moments of competition and protection on the field.

All four pieces will remain on display through April 2027, giving residents and visitors ample time to explore the installations and share their own photos. The city encourages the public to download the Bloomberg Connects app, which provides GPS‑guided navigation to each sculpture and additional background on the artists.
