A New Frontcourt Piece Arrives in Tucson
Arizona’s men’s basketball program has added Evan Otten, a 6‑foot‑11, 240‑pound center who completed his redshirt sophomore season at Idaho State. Otten signed with the Wildcats this week, securing two years of eligibility and adding a proven shot‑blocker to the lineup.
During his last campaign, Otten averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds while leading the Big Sky Conference with 1.8 blocks per game. His defensive contributions earned him a spot on the All‑Defensive Team and placed him 14th nationally in blocks, underscoring his ability to protect the rim.
The Wildcats already feature a formidable frontcourt anchored by Motiejus Krivas and Ugnius Jarusevicius, with Endurance Aiyamenkhue and Mabil Mawut providing additional depth. Otten’s arrival is viewed as insurance for Jarusevicius, whose lingering back issues could flare, and as a versatile option when the team needs extra size.
Coach Tommy Lloyd has emphasized the importance of depth as the roster builds toward the 2026‑27 season. Otten becomes the seventh addition, leaving Arizona with one open scholarship spot that will likely be used to address the power‑forward position.
The move also comes as the program awaits a decision from Koa Peat, who is currently weighing whether to remain in the NBA Draft or return to college. Regardless of Peat’s choice, the addition of Otten bolsters the team’s interior options and defensive versatility.
