Derrick White, a guard who helped the Boston Celtics secure a championship, has been named Colorado’s president of basketball strategy, a role that will blend mentorship with talent acquisition for the Buffaloes.
A New Direction for Colorado Basketball
White’s connection to the state runs deep; he starred at the University of Colorado before transferring to Boulder, where he averaged more than 18 points and four assists per game during his senior season.
In his new capacity, he will guide current players, shape the next recruiting class, and oversee a $2 million contribution from him and his family earmarked for the men’s basketball program.
The announcement, scheduled for June 24, will be attended by other former Colorado standouts and will be followed by a live taping of White’s podcast, adding a media dimension to the transition.
The move signals a strategic push by the university to blend on‑court expertise with off‑court investment, aiming to restore the program’s national relevance.
