A Defensive Anchor Arrives
The University of Arizona's men's basketball program has secured a commitment from Idaho State transfer Evan Otten, a 6‑foot‑11 center who brings two years of eligibility and a reputation as a shot‑blocking specialist.
Otten, a native of Redmond, Oregon, averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds last season while leading the Big Sky Conference with 1.8 blocks per game, a statistic that placed him 14th nationally among blockers. His defensive accolades also earned him a spot on the Big Sky All‑Defensive Team.
Coach Tommy Lloyd highlighted the addition as a way to reinforce the frontcourt, noting that the team already features Motiejus Krivas, Ugnius Jarusevicius, Endurance Aiyamenkhue and Mabil Mawut. Otten is expected to compete for minutes behind Krivas, who is projected to start, while providing a safety net should Jarusevicius' back issues resurface.
The signing marks the seventh addition to the 2026‑27 roster, leaving one scholarship slot open for a power forward. Meanwhile, the program continues to monitor the NBA Draft decision of Koa Peat, whose eventual return would further shape the team's interior options.
With the new piece in place, Arizona aims to deepen its defensive identity and add depth for a season that promises to be competitive in the Pac‑12.
