A Record‑Breaking Performance
Shane van Gisbergen claimed victory in the 2025 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, leading 97 of the 110 laps and rewriting the track’s record books. The win marked his fourth NASCAR Cup Series triumph and gave him the most laps led at the venue in a single race.
Starting from pole position — the first to do so since Jeff Gordon’s 1999 triumph — van Gisbergen surged ahead early and never looked back. He eclipsed Gordon’s previous lap‑lead record of 92, cementing his dominance on the road‑course layout.
Chase Briscoe chased him home, finishing 1.128 seconds back in second, while Chase Elliott used a late tire strategy to move up to third. Michael McDowell and Christopher Bell completed the top five, rounding out a competitive field.
Multiple cautions shuffled the order throughout the event, but van Gisbergen’s composure under pressure kept him at the front. The performance followed a strong showing the day before in the O’Reilly Series, where he also finished second.
Sonoma Raceway has a history of producing diverse winners, from Martin Truex Jr. to Kyle Larson, and the New Zealand driver’s road‑course pedigree places him among the favorites alongside Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, and other contenders such as William Byron, Joey Logano, and AJ Allmendinger.
