Landon DuPont, a 17‑year‑old defenseman, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on Tuesday, choosing the Wolverines over a handful of other suitors.
DuPont comes to Ann Arbor after a breakout season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, where he recorded 18 goals and 73 points in 63 games and earned Rookie of the Year honors.
The blue‑liner was granted exceptional status by the CHL, allowing him to depart the WHL a year early, a route also taken by Gavin McKenna as he transitioned from the league to the NCAA in his pre‑draft season.
A Defensive Upgrade for the Program
Michigan’s defensive core will now add another high‑profile prospect to a group that already features standouts such as Henry Mews and Cameron Reid, giving the program depth and offensive upside from the blue line.
The commitment marks the second major addition for the Wolverines this week, following Cameron Reid’s pledge on June 18, and comes as Michigan looks to build on a 31‑8‑1 record that saw the team reach the Frozen Four last season.
