Ryan Hulings Joins UMass Women’s Soccer as Assistant Coach

A look at his extensive coaching background and impact on the program

A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Staff

Ryan Hulings has been appointed as an assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team, bringing a deep reservoir of experience from a career that spans multiple collegiate programs.

His coaching journey includes stints at Army, where he helped the men's soccer side to a 7‑6‑5 record and a third‑seed finish in the Patriot League Tournament, and at Kentucky, where the team reached the NCAA Tournament second round. At UAB he refined defensive metrics, and during four seasons with the UMass men's program he guided the squad to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Hulings is especially known for his work with goalkeepers. Under his guidance, Army keepers posted a .784 save percentage, ranking second in the conference and 28th nationally, while Michale Guiry recorded seven shutouts, the third‑best total in the Patriot League.

A Player‑Centric Approach

Beyond tactics, Hulings combines his playing background with academic credentials. He played professionally for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Tampa Bay Rowdies before earning a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Baldwin Wallace in 2014. His time with the U18 US Women's National Team as Goalkeeper Coach in June 2025 further sharpened his developmental perspective.

The new assistant coach also brings international exposure, having worked with the youth program Blackrock FC – New England Region and supervised the development of Casper Mols, a goalkeeper later drafted by Atlanta United FC.

Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Hulings joins a program poised for growth. His blend of defensive acumen, player development, and tactical insight is expected to elevate the Minutewomen's competitive edge in the coming seasons.
