Former Miami University star brings MAC championship experience and a strong scoring record to the Purple Aces

A Fresh Face on the Coaching Bench

Amber Scalia has accepted a graduate‑assistant position on the University of Evansville women’s basketball staff, bringing a recent championship pedigree and a proven scoring threat to the Purple Aces.

From Player to Coach

During her senior season at Miami University, Scalia helped the Redhawks capture both the Mid‑America Conference regular‑season title and tournament championship, finishing with a 28‑7 record. She started all 34 games she appeared in, averaging 13.7 points per contest while shooting efficiently from the field.

Her impact was recognized with a MAC Tournament MVP award after she posted 16.7 points per game across three tournament contests. In the NCAA Tournament, she contributed 14 points against West Virginia, underscoring her ability to perform on big stages.

Before arriving at Evansville, Scalia spent three seasons at St. Thomas University, where she amassed 1,091 career points and hit 34 % of her three‑point attempts. As a junior in 2024‑25 she averaged 14.8 points and 3.6 rebounds, and the previous year she led the Tommies with 16.8 points per game, earning St. Thomas Female Athlete of the Year honors.

A native of Stillwater, Minnesota, Scalia graduated from Miami University in 2026 with a degree in kinesiology, positioning her to blend academic insight with on‑court development.

Head coach Ben Wierzba expressed enthusiasm about the hire, noting that Scalia’s blend of experience and work ethic will help accelerate the program’s growth. The university’s athletic director echoed the sentiment, highlighting the strategic value of adding a recent conference champion to the coaching ranks.
