Kansas head coach Bill Self addressed the media recently, providing the first detailed update on former Jayhawks standout KJ Adams as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles sustained in March 2025.
Rehabilitation and Recovery
Adams, who served as an assistant video coordinator during the 2025‑26 season, underwent successful surgery and has been progressing steadily in his rehabilitation, reporting that he felt strong during a recent workout with the Dallas Mavericks.
The workout, which took place about two to three weeks ago, allowed Adams to showcase his skills and he exceeded his own expectations, a sign that his conditioning is returning to pre‑injury levels.
Adams’ college career was marked by his role on the 2022 national championship team, where he contributed significantly as a freshman and evolved into a key contributor over subsequent seasons, helping Kansas to a 24‑11 record and deep tournament runs.
With the upcoming season on the horizon, Self emphasized that the Jayhawks are aiming to contend for another title, a goal bolstered by the arrival of top prospect Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 recruit in the 2026 class.
Self, who is entering another year while rumors of possible retirement circulate, expressed confidence that the team’s new additions will keep the program competitive, and he praised the organization’s continuity and fan support.
