From Caribbean Waves to NHL Draft Boards: Jaxon Cover’s Rise

The 18‑year‑old from Grand Cayman is emerging as a top prospect after a swift transition from roller hockey to elite ice competition.

At just 18, Jaxon Cover is already turning heads in the world of professional hockey. Once a roller‑hockey enthusiast on the turquoise waters of Grand Cayman, he swapped his skates for ice blades five years ago and has since climbed the ranks to become the 29th‑best North American skater in the latest Central Scouting report.

A Caribbean‑Born Prospect Eyes the NHL

His breakthrough came during a summer camp in Toronto, where a stint on the ice sparked a permanent move to the sport. Coached by David Manning at St. Andrew’s College, Cover quickly caught the eye of scouts and began a rapid ascent through Canada’s junior circuits.

Last season he led the London Knights with 20 goals and 52 points in 67 games, a performance that helped the team secure a playoff berth. The Knights, a storied franchise in the Ontario Hockey League, have become a proving ground for many future NHL stars.

Cover’s talent has not gone unnoticed beyond the rink. He has spoken with 25 of the league’s 32 NHL teams, and analysts project he will hear his name called in either the second or third round of the upcoming draft.

Looking Ahead

Planning to finish the current season in London before committing to Penn State, Cover says his focus remains on honing his skills and translating his Caribbean‑born work ethic into the next level of competition.
