Investing in the Next Generation
A new partnership between FOX Sports and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America is set to broaden access to youth soccer across the United States as the country prepares to co‑host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada. The initiative, backed by a $500,000 commitment from FOX Sports and its parent Fox Corporation, aims to remove financial and logistical obstacles that have kept many youngsters off the pitch.
Organizers point to a 46 percent rise in youth sports costs over the past five years, a trend that has contributed to a measurable dip in participation. By subsidizing team fees, improving transportation options and upgrading local facilities, the program seeks to level the playing field for families that might otherwise be priced out.
Removing Barriers
Beyond affordability, the effort emphasizes gender equity, with targeted actions to boost girls’ involvement and to create mentorship pathways that teach teamwork, confidence and other life skills. Former U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Matt Turner has voiced support for the cause, underscoring the importance of opening doors for the next generation of players.
The funding will also support coach education and referee certification programs, ensuring that communities have qualified adults to guide and officiate games. Partners such as the New York Life Foundation, the Buffalo Wild Wings Foundation and the U.S. Soccer Foundation are contributing additional resources and expertise to amplify impact.
A Sustainable Future
Community events, expanded league play and pipeline development projects are expected to generate a lasting soccer ecosystem that reaches beyond the tournament cycle. As the sport’s visibility grows, stakeholders hope the model can be replicated in other underserved regions, fostering a broader culture of inclusion and athletic development.
