A Strategic Addition
Long Beach State Men's Basketball announced the finalization of its 2026‑27 roster, confirming the addition of JJ Gray, a guard who previously starred at Oberlin College. Gray’s return to Southern California marks a homecoming that the program hopes will translate into on‑court production.
During his three‑year tenure at Oberlin, Gray served as the team’s leading scorer each season and maintained a career average exceeding 15 points per game. His consistent offensive output and familiarity with high‑level competition make him a valuable asset as the team seeks veteran leadership.
The roster now comprises 15 scholarship athletes, blending returning players, high school recruits, Division I transfers and athletes from other divisions. This mix reflects the program’s emphasis on experience, depth and community representation.
Gray’s integration underscores the team’s strategy of prioritizing players who can contribute immediately while embodying the cultural fabric of the region. His presence is expected to reinforce both competitive ambitions and local ties.
