A Homecoming for a Young Coach
Frenship Independent School District announced this week that Tyler Lloyd, a 2005 graduate of Frenship High School, will take over as the program’s new head baseball coach. Lloyd, who has spent his entire life in the district, returns after a decade of coaching experience that includes a recent stint as an assistant at his alma mater.
A lifelong baseball enthusiast, Lloyd earned a scholarship to play at Lubbock Christian University, where his team made back‑to‑back NAIA World Series appearances. The experience cemented his understanding of high‑level competition and the discipline required to succeed.
Over the past twelve years, Lloyd has built a coaching résumé that blends grassroots development with competitive success. He spent four years as a head coach, most notably guiding the Tulia baseball program to a 20‑win season and its first playoff berth in seven years, a feat that put the small town on the regional map.
After serving as an assistant for the 2024 season, Lloyd was promoted to head coach in 2025, a move that reflects the district’s confidence in his ability to sustain and elevate the program. In a statement, he said he is eager to “continue to work with students at my alma mater” and to “maintain high standards of excellence” both on the field and in the classroom.
Lloyd’s personal life is closely tied to the district as well. His wife, Kenzi Lloyd, is also a Frenship graduate and will begin work at Bennett Elementary as a reading interventionist this fall. Their two sons, Nathanael and Nolan, are set to attend Bennett Elementary next year, further embedding the family in the community.
Beyond wins and losses, Lloyd emphasizes character development. He aims to produce not only skilled ballplayers but also “good young men” who uphold the district’s values. His philosophy centers on discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence that he hopes will ripple through the lives of his players.
