Josh Cribbs Joins Kent State Football Staff as Special Teams Analyst

Former Browns Star Returns to Alma Mater in Coaching Role

Josh Cribbs, a standout alumnus of Kent State University and a longtime figure in the Cleveland Browns’ history, has been appointed to the university’s football staff as a special teams analyst.

A Homecoming for a Kent State Legend

The appointment comes after special teams coordinator CJ Conrad left for the Miami Dolphins, creating a vacancy that head coach Mark Carney chose to fill with a candidate whose ties to the program run deep.

Carney emphasized Cribbs’ ambition and passion for Kent State, noting that the former All‑American’s desire to give back to his alma mater was evident from the outset.

Cribbs will receive a salary of $75,000 and becomes the only member of Carney’s staff whose official title includes the words ‘special teams,’ highlighting the focused role he will assume.

His coaching background includes internships with the Browns and the Houston Texans, a position as special teams coach for the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, and a recent scholarship offer to his son, Israel Cribbs, a quarterback at Archbishop Hoban High School.

The hiring reinforces the program’s connection to its former star and signals a new direction for the team’s special‑teams unit as it aims to build on recent successes.
