Scarlet Knights Stumble in Indiana
Rutgers baseball dropped an 8‑2 decision to Indiana in the series finale, slipping further in the Big Ten standings as the Hoosiers capitalized on every opportunity.
The Scarlet Knights entered the sixth inning mired in a 7‑0 hole, having left nine baserunners on base during the opening five frames and failing to string together timely hits.
Indiana’s offense surged with a solo home run in the fourth, added two more runs in the fifth, and padded the lead with additional scoring in the sixth, turning a modest advantage into a commanding one.
Rutgers finally got on the board in the seventh, plating two runs, but the damage was already done. Matt Chatelle was the most consistent threat, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances, while Charlie Meglio contributed three walks and a single that resulted in a run.
Looking ahead, the Scarlet Knights are set to travel to face Seton Hall before returning home to host the nation’s top‑ranked UCLA squad, a pair of games that could define the remainder of their season.
