Carson Trivellini, a junior shortstop from Crystal Lake South, has been named the 2026 Northwest Herald Baseball Player of the Year, an honor that reflects a breakout season that saw his team advance to the state tournament and finish fourth in Class 3A.
At the plate he posted a .390 batting average, collecting 50 hits that included 14 doubles and a single home run, while also scoring 37 runs and turning 25 double plays defensively with just three errors.
Trivellini’s commitment to the University of Illinois has been a focal point of his recent reflections, as he regularly follows the Illini’s program and maintains contact with their coaching staff, underscoring his ambition to continue his career at the collegiate level.
Beyond the high school schedule, the shortstop will spend the summer traveling to tournaments in Indiana, Illinois, Georgia and Florida, and he remains loyal to his longtime Rawlings Heart of the Hide glove, a piece of equipment that has accompanied him since his freshman year.

The combination of offensive production, defensive reliability and a clear collegiate pathway paints a picture of a player poised for continued development, and his story resonates with teammates, coaches and the broader baseball community.
