The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame will welcome two of its most distinguished alumni, Jerry Blanton and Ermal Allen, into its prestigious circle during a ceremony scheduled for June 26, 2026, in Lexington.
Blanton, a defensive tackle who made history as the Wildcats’ first true freshman to start a varsity game, anchored a defense that captured the 1976 SEC Championship and later earned All‑SEC honors in 1977 before embarking on a professional journey that included stints with the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.
Beyond his playing days, Blanton amassed 389 career tackles, led the Chiefs with 136 stops in 1983, and built a respected career in public service and business, embodying the Hall’s commitment to leadership off the field.
Ermal Allen, meanwhile, dazzled as a multi‑sport standout at Kentucky, lettering in football, basketball, golf and track before guiding the Wildcats to three consecutive winning seasons as a quarterback from 1939 to 1941.
After serving in World War II, Allen returned to Lexington as an assistant coach, later joining the Cleveland Browns in 1947 and launching a 22‑year tenure with the Dallas Cowboys that saw him rise to Director of Research and Development and become an early champion of computerized player analysis — a pioneering contribution to modern NFL scouting.
A Legacy of Innovation and Service
Allen’s analytical approach helped the Cowboys integrate data‑driven decision‑making long before it became commonplace, and his five Super Bowl appearances underscore the impact of his work.
The Hall of Fame, which has raised more than $1 million for youth and children’s charities since 2003, will direct this year’s proceeds to the Foster Care Council of Kentucky, reinforcing its mission to support vulnerable youngsters throughout the Commonwealth.
