The Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) has released its all‑state selections, and three seniors from the Cheboygan‑area have earned honorable‑mention accolades. All three also secured spots on the MHSBCA all‑region team, underscoring their impact beyond the local circuit.
Milestones for Currie
Braylon Currie of Mackinaw City capped his high school career by becoming the program’s all‑time leader in pitching victories. He finished the season with an 8‑3 record, a 2.66 earned‑run average and 80 strikeouts in 50 innings, earning him a place on the all‑state honorable‑mention list.
Cash Depauw, a fellow pitcher from Inland Lakes, posted a 7‑1 record with a 2.28 ERA and matched Currie’s 80 strikeouts across 46 innings. His consistency helped him join Currie on the all‑state honorable‑mention roster.
Outfielder Wyatt Hanel contributed a .403 batting average, 20 runs batted in and 25 runs scored, providing a potent offensive threat that complemented his defensive duties.
Ty Kolly, another Inland Lakes senior, was also recognized on the all‑state team, rounding out a strong local contingent of honorees.
Mackinaw City coach Elijah May expressed pride in the trio, noting that their achievements place them alongside former greats Mark Spencley and Lars Huffman, who previously earned first‑team and second‑team all‑state honors respectively.
May believes the recognition reflects a long‑standing tradition of baseball excellence in the region and expects the program to build on this momentum in the coming seasons.
