Spartanburg College Baseball Series Set to Showcase Elite Talent
The Spartanburg College Baseball Series will run from February 26 to 28, bringing together seven regional tournaments that spotlight some of the nation’s most competitive mid‑major programs. This year’s lineup includes the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Austin Peay, Wofford and Indiana, each bringing a distinct pedigree to the event.
Wofford enters the tournament with a streak of eight straight seasons featuring at least 30 victories, a testament to its consistent performance under Coach Mike McRae. Austin Peay, fresh off a 45‑win campaign and an ASUN Conference title in 2025, arrives with momentum built around a deep pitching staff. Indiana, meanwhile, has reached the NCAA Regional round three times in the past seven years, underscoring its ability to compete nationally.
Coach Hood’s Vision
UNCW Head Coach Randy Hood said the matchup offers a rare chance to test his squad against programs that routinely dominate their conferences. He praised the professional‑grade stadium that will host the games, noting that the atmosphere will mirror that of a major‑league venue and will help his players acclimate to high‑stakes competition.
Beyond the immediate matchups, the series reflects a broader trend among coastal programs seeking to elevate their schedules. UNCW, a two‑time Coastal Athletic Association champion in 2023 and 2024, has logged 18 seasons with 30 or more wins, a record that excludes the shortened 2020 campaign. The Seahawks’ recent success positions them as a formidable addition to the Spartanburg field.
