A Scholar-Athlete's Rise
Evan Haas, a senior majoring in electrical and computer engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has been selected to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-East Region Second Team. The honor reflects not only his 3.97 cumulative GPA but also his leadership on the soccer field, where he serves as team captain and a cornerstone defender.
During the 2025 campaign Haas started every match, logging over 4,800 minutes while contributing two goals and an assist, including a decisive helper on the game‑winning goal that secured the Engineers' postseason berth. His efforts helped the squad finish the season with an 8‑7‑5 record and return to the NEWMAC Championship match for the second time in three seasons.
Beyond the scoreboard, Haas has been a consistent presence in the classroom, earning Dean's List honors six times throughout his undergraduate career. His academic work culminated in an Interactive Qualifying Project conducted in Cuenca, Ecuador, where he collaborated with underserved communities to address local challenges.
Haas also gives back to the broader engineering community as Co‑Projects Chair for the IEEE Solid‑State Circuits Society and represents the men's soccer program on WPI's Student‑Athlete Advisory Committee. To qualify for the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All‑Region award, student‑athletes must maintain at least junior standing, achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and make significant on‑field contributions — criteria that Haas clearly meets.
