The Fulton Public Schools Board of Education has given initial approval to a plan that would allow students from St. Peter Catholic School to join the Fulton Middle School football team. The move follows a request from district officials and a show of support from St. Peter’s leadership.
A collaborative opportunity
Curtis Walk, who serves as Fulton High School’s athletics director, said several St. Peter students have expressed interest in the program. Walk emphasized that the co‑op could boost participation numbers and foster stronger ties between the two schools’ student bodies.
St. Peter is an affiliate member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association, which permits its schools to compete against member institutions but bars them from district or state‑level competition. Because of that status, the football co‑op would operate under Fulton’s policies and eligibility rules if it receives final clearance.
Next steps and requirements
Final approval must come from both school boards and the MSHSAA Board of Directors. In addition, St. Peter’s principal, Erin Polson, has written a letter endorsing the arrangement, highlighting the potential for student growth and community building.
If the co‑op is sanctioned, participating St. Peter athletes would be required to follow Fulton’s eligibility guidelines and would not be cut from the team based on performance, ensuring a stable roster for the middle school program.
