The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced this week that Kean University’s pitching duo, Jude Clough and Dan Reistle, have been selected to the Region IV All-Defensive Team, a testament to their remarkable fielding consistency and arm strength.
A Defensive Milestone for Kean Baseball
Clough, who manned the catcher’s position all season, posted a career‑high .991 fielding percentage across 203 putouts, 21 assists, 14 caught stealing attempts and just two errors. His ability to control the opposing running game added a strategic edge that coaches say was pivotal in several tight contests.
Reistle, stationed at first base, was equally impressive with a .997 fielding percentage built on 310 putouts, 38 double plays turned, 17 assists and a single error. The reliability he displayed at the corner infield helped the team turn extra innings into outs and maintain momentum during high‑pressure moments.
Both players now stand eligible for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors, an accolade that recognizes the nation’s most outstanding defensive talents. The ABCA’s Regional Defensive teams were introduced in 2023, making this year’s selections a benchmark for emerging defensive excellence in collegiate baseball.
Kean’s athletic department praised the duo’s dedication, noting that the recognition reflects not only individual talent but also the program’s growing emphasis on defensive fundamentals. Head coach Mike McCarthy highlighted how Clough’s and Reistle’s work ethic sets a standard for underclassmen and reinforces the team’s competitive edge in the conference.
As the season progresses, the spotlight on these two athletes underscores the depth of talent within Kean’s roster. Their continued development will likely influence recruiting strategies and could position the program for even greater achievements in the coming years.
