Todd Butler, a seasoned baseball coach with a 28‑year career, is set to leave his role at the University of Oklahoma and join the University of Florida’s baseball program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Butler’s arrival marks a significant addition for the Gators, who are looking to bolster their staff with a recruiter who has spent 17 of his 28 coaching years navigating the SEC.
Championship Experience and SEC Insight
During his time with the Sooners, Butler helped the team hit 47 home runs in the final 19 games of the season and score 118 runs on 156 hits across 13 NCAA Tournament games, culminating in a national championship.
His playing days at McNeese State and Oklahoma provided a foundation that later translated into coaching success, including a head‑coaching tenure at McNeese State from 2001 to 2003 and a seven‑year run at Arkansas.
Butler also guided Wichita State to a No. 2 national recruiting class in 2014, overseeing 28 MLB draft picks and 11 All‑Americans during his time with the Shockers.
Beyond the wins, Butler is known for his ability to develop players at every level of college baseball, a skill set that the Florida program hopes will translate into stronger recruiting classes and on‑field performance.
The move underscores Florida’s intent to leverage Butler’s SEC recruiting expertise and championship pedigree as the Gators aim to return to the top of the national conversation.
