Omaha Baseball’s head coach Rob Fournier announced a reshaping of his coaching staff this week, bringing on board three seasoned assistants who promise to elevate the program’s recruiting reach and player development.
A Strategic Boost for the Mavericks
Jeff Calhoon, formerly a development coach within the Houston Astros system, will take on dual responsibilities as recruiting coordinator and hitting coach, leveraging more than a decade of experience across Division I and II programs, including a three‑year stint as head coach at Biola University.
Zach Gerch, an Omaha native who spent five years assisting at Cloud County College, returns to the region to strengthen the recruiting pipeline, having helped construct championship cultures at both Cloud County and Frontier Community College.
Cory Wright joins the staff after two years as director of operations and player development at Jacksonville State, where he also honed his pitching expertise at Valdosta State and Emporia State, bringing a championship mindset cultivated over stints at multiple collegiate programs.
The trio’s diverse backgrounds, from Astros‑affiliated player development to local collegiate ties, signal a strategic push by Fournier to blend proven expertise with home‑grown talent, aiming to accelerate the Mavericks’ ascent in the competitive landscape.
