Baker Mayfield and Jalen Williams Join Forces to Build Oklahoma City’s New Professional Soccer Club

The duo becomes part of a high‑profile investor group targeting a 2028 USL Championship debut

Professional soccer in Oklahoma City is set for a major boost as former NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield and NBA standout Jalen Williams have announced their participation in the ownership group for a new USL Championship franchise.

A community‑driven soccer project

The club, tentatively called OKC For Soccer, will call a state‑of‑the‑art multipurpose stadium its home, a facility that forms part of the city’s MAPS 4 infrastructure initiative and is slated to open in 2028.

Echo Investment Capital, the firm behind the Connective Capital model, says the venture aims to blend athletic talent, operational expertise and community leadership to foster long‑term growth.

While the project represents a fresh brand rather than a revival of the former OKC Energy FC, the club’s visual identity, including name, colors and crest, will be revealed later this year.

Mayfield, a Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Oklahoma, and Williams, who helped the Thunder capture their first NBA title in 2025, join a roster of investors that also features NBA veteran Russell Westbrook, former U.S. men’s national team forward Jozy Altidore and entrepreneur Nick Gross.
