A New Role on the International Stage
Boston College assistant coach Brent Darnell has been named a video coach for the United States roster at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, a role that places him among the support staff heading into the tournament.
Darnell brings a proven track record with USA Hockey, having served as an assistant on the U.S. Under‑18 men’s national team for the 2022 and 2023 IIHF Under‑18 Men’s World Championships, where he helped secure a gold medal in 2023 and contributed to the development of several future NHL players.
The championship will be staged across Edmonton and Red Deer in Alberta, Canada, from December 26, 2026, through January 5, 2027, marking the second consecutive year that a Boston College coach has been part of the Team USA staff.
His appointment underscores the growing influence of collegiate coaching talent within USA Hockey’s international program, and fans can expect Darnell to play a key part in shaping video analysis and player preparation for the upcoming competition.
