Soccer Forward Fest Lights Up Olathe
The Boys and Girls Club of Olathe transformed its gymnasium into a vibrant arena of soccer drills, games and community activities during the Soccer Forward Fest, a FIFA World Cup‑themed celebration made possible through a collaboration between Walmart and the Soccer Forward Foundation.
Designed to inspire play, teamwork and connection, the event invited children of all backgrounds to step onto the field, where the simple joy of kicking a ball became a conduit for friendship and self‑expression.
Organizers highlighted the club’s diversity, noting that many participants voiced how soccer not only sharpens their skills but also gives them a voice and a sense of belonging.
The festival was bolstered by a $15,000 donation from Walmart, a contribution that covered equipment, staffing and the logistics needed to bring the vision to life.
Beyond the local gathering, the day served as a bridge to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Kansas City announced as one of the host cities, allowing the youngsters to imagine themselves on a global stage.
For many of the kids — among them Timera Kakish, Axel, Thiago and Max — the experience was more than a game; it was a glimpse of how sport can knit together a community and spark lifelong aspirations.
