A Strategic Promotion
Loyola Marymount University announced that Jody Burrows will step into the role of associate head coach for the women's basketball program beginning with the 2026‑27 season. The move comes under the guidance of Head Coach Aarika Hughes, who highlighted Burrows' deep roots within the Lions program and her proven ability to elevate team performance.
Burrows first joined LMU in 2022 as Director of Basketball Operations before transitioning to an assistant coaching position. Her ascent reflects a trusted partnership with Hughes and a shared vision for sustained success.
A Coach With Diverse Roots
Beyond her collegiate responsibilities, Burrows has cultivated a broad coaching portfolio that spans stints at Bates College, the U.S. Naval Academy, Case Western Reserve University and Oberlin College. Each appointment added layers of strategic insight and player development expertise to her résumé.
A former player at Northeastern University, Burrows concluded her collegiate career ranked sixth in program history with 143 assists, underscoring a strong basketball intellect that she now brings to the sidelines.
A Shared Leadership Role
In addition to her new associate head coach title, Burrows will work alongside Brooke Atkinson, forming a dual‑leadership structure that Hughes believes will amplify the program's competitive edge. Their collaboration builds on the foundation laid during the 2025‑26 season, when the Lions captured the West Coast Conference Regular Season Championship and posted one of the program's finest records.
