Neimann Lawrence Commits to Texas Longhorns Over Elite Alternatives

The Florida prospect's decision reshapes the 2028 quarterback landscape and bolsters the Longhorns' offense

Neimann Lawrence, a four-star quarterback prospect from Plantation, Florida, announced his commitment to the University of Texas Longhorns on June 25, selecting the program over a slate of national contenders.

The decision marks a significant recruiting win for Texas, which edged out Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas A&M for the player who sits at No. 50 overall in the 2028 composite rankings and is the sixth-best quarterback in his class.

A strategic win for the Longhorns

Lawrence’s rise has been tracked closely after he transferred to American Heritage for his junior year, having previously starred at Miami Northwestern and Miami Ransom Everglades, where he posted a 64.3 percent completion rate as a freshman.

Last season he completed 71 percent of his passes for 1,971 yards and 32 touchdowns while throwing just one interception, numbers that helped him climb to the No. 11 spot among Florida prospects.

He will replace former American Heritage standout Dia Bell, now a freshman at Texas, in the Longhorns’ quarterback room, a move that head coach Steve Sarkisian says adds a dynamic playmaker to the offense.

Sarkisian, who has been aggressive in the 2028 recruiting cycle, highlighted Lawrence’s arm strength and poise under pressure, noting that the quarterback’s skill set aligns with the team’s evolving offensive scheme.

The commitment also underscores Texas’s ability to attract top talent from the Sunshine State, a region that has traditionally fed talent into rival programs, and it may influence the recruitment strategies of other powerhouses.
