Santa Fe College marked the start of construction this week on the Hitchcock Family Clubhouse, a dedicated space for its softball and baseball teams. The groundbreaking ceremony highlighted the college's commitment to enhancing the athletic experience for student‑athletes and fans alike.
The new clubhouse will feature modern locker rooms, shower facilities and expanded training areas, all designed to support the daily needs of athletes while fostering a stronger sense of community on campus.
Community Impact and Vision
Alan Hitchcock, president of the Hitchcock Family Charity Foundation, expressed pride in giving back to an institution that has shaped his family's legacy. "We are honored to contribute to a facility that will serve current and future generations of athletes," he said.
Chanda Stebbins, director of Santa Fe Athletics, emphasized that the project represents the first phase of a broader effort to improve the overall fan and athlete experience. "This clubhouse is more than a building; it’s a gathering place where our community can rally around our teams," she noted.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The clubhouse is slated for completion in spring 2027, a timeline that aligns with the college's phased approach to upgrading its ballfields. Once finished, the facility will not only provide practical amenities but also serve as a hub for team events, recruitment visits and campus celebrations.
Even before the new building opens, student‑athlete Mckenna O’Sullivan has been adapting to the current lack of dedicated locker space by changing in her car for the past three years, underscoring the necessity of the upcoming improvements.
