The Wausau Woodchucks baseball team marked the 20th anniversary of its annual Youth baseball and softball clinic at Hodag Park, drawing roughly 150 children from across the region. The free event, designed for kids aged six to 14, combined skill drills with a celebration of community spirit.
Partnerships Make the Event Possible
Sponsorship from Wisconsin Chevy Dealers and the Rhinelander GM Auto Group covered equipment, field preparation and staffing, enabling the clinic to remain tuition‑free. Organizers emphasized that the collaboration of local businesses was essential to the clinic's longevity.
Coaches Focus on Fun and Fundamentals
Pitching Coach Reid Santos highlighted the importance of keeping the children happy while teaching the basics of fielding, batting and pitching. "Our goal is to spread the love for the game," he said, underscoring that enjoyment is the foundation of development.
Pitcher Ben Chuttey echoed the sentiment, describing the experience of meeting the youngsters as rewarding and expressing his desire to continue coaching baseball in the community. "Seeing the kids improve and smile is what drives me," he added.

As the clinic drew to a close, Chuttey shared his ambition to expand coaching opportunities for youth baseball, hoping to nurture the next generation of players in the area. The Woodchucks organization plans to build on this momentum, leveraging community partnerships for future editions of the program.
