Matt Rhule, the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, teamed up with four of his players to run a youth football camp in Omaha, Nebraska, organized by FlexWork Sports.
The event took place at Blackburn Alternative School, where the former college coach and the senior and sophomore players led drills, shared personal stories, and answered questions from the kids.
A Full‑Circle Experience for a Youngster
Senior linebacker Derek Wacker, who once attended similar camps as a child, recalled receiving a personal invitation from Rhule in March and described the day as a full‑circle moment, watching the next generation step onto the field.
Junior wide receiver Demitrius Bell, senior wide receiver Roman Mangini, and senior defensive lineman Dylan Parrot joined Wacker as coaches, each bringing their own perspective and energy to the drills.
Hundreds of campers between the ages of six and thirteen took part in the sessions, running routes, practicing tackles, and snapping photos with Rhule, creating a buzzing atmosphere on the field.
Grayson Sheppard, operations coordinator for FlexWork Sports, emphasized that making the camp special for Rhule and the kids was a top priority, noting the partnership’s goal of giving back to the community.
The camp not only offered skill development but also served as a platform for mentorship, with the players highlighting the importance of hard work, teamwork, and staying engaged in sports.
