Pualani Spurlock-Welsh has been appointed supervisor of women’s basketball officials for the American, Atlantic Coast and Big East conferences, a role that places her at the helm of a newly formalized officiating alliance.
With more than 18 years of service as a Division I college basketball referee, she brings a depth of experience that spans NCAA Tournament appearances, WNBA and NBA G League assignments, and international competitions.
A New Alliance for Women’s Basketball Officiating
In this capacity she will oversee the women’s basketball officiating program for the American, ACC and Big East conferences, coordinating training, evaluation and assignment of officials across the three leagues.
Commissioners Val Ackerman of the Big East and Jim Phillips of the ACC praised her reputation as one of the premier women’s basketball officials in the country, citing her consistent performance and respected presence on the court.
Spurlock-Welsh’s credentials include seven Regional Tournament assignments and four Final Four appearances since 2011, as well as a stint in the Greenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame earned in 2021.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University and a master’s from Slippery Rock University, underscoring a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence.
Her appointment signals a strategic effort to strengthen the pipeline of high‑quality officiating for women’s basketball, a move that leaders across the conferences say will benefit players, coaches and fans alike.
