Aggies Face Second-Toughest SEC Schedule in 2027

Coach Bucky McMillan and returning stars aim to navigate a loaded conference and non‑conference slate

Texas A&M’s men’s basketball program is gearing up for what coach Bucky McMillan calls the second‑hardest slate in the SEC, a 2027 schedule that pits the Aggies against a who’s‑who of the conference.

A loaded conference road

The Aggies finished last season tied for second place in conference play with eleven wins, marking their sixth double‑digit campaign since joining the SEC in 2014, a testament to McMillan’s steady growth.

Key pieces of that success return in forward Mackenzie Mgbako and big man Zach Clemence, who will be tasked with executing McMillan’s system in its second year.

The non‑conference portion of the calendar is already set, featuring matchups against Oklahoma State, TCU, Stanford and Florida State, while the team will also compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis during Thanksgiving week.

SEC play begins on Jan. 2, 2027 and runs through March 6, 2027, with road trips to traditional powerhouses such as LSU, Texas, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri and South Carolina.

Last season Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee all finished ahead of Texas A&M in the league standings, and each of those programs will make the journey to College Station, adding another layer of competition for the Aggies.

Beyond the schedule, the broader context remains favorable: the SEC has been labeled the nation’s strongest league in recent years, and Vanderbilt’s runner‑up finish in the SEC Tournament and LSU’s recent overseas signings underscore the depth of competition.
