USI Basketball Bolsters Coaching Staff with Trio of Experienced Assistants

Former Tennessee Tech aide Stefan King joins Doug Novsek and Dylan Ingram as the program looks to build on recent momentum.

The University of Southern Indiana (USI) announced this week that it has added three new assistant coaches to its men’s basketball program, a move aimed at strengthening the team’s depth and strategic outlook.

Stefan King, who most recently served as an assistant coach and director of operations at Tennessee Tech University, brings a proven track record of elevating programs within the Ohio Valley Conference.

During his tenure at Tennessee Tech, King helped the Golden Eagles secure multiple tournament berths and a championship‑game appearance, while also guiding the squad to a top‑10 ranking in three‑point shooting percentage and contributing to a high volume of made threes.

Doug Novsek returns to the USI campus after stints at Mt. Vernon High School, Eastern Illinois University and the University of Idaho, where he has been credited with helping teams capture conference titles and assemble winning seasons.

A New Coaching Landscape

Novsek’s blend of high‑school and collegiate experience equips him to mentor players both on and off the court, adding a layer of continuity that the program values.

Dylan Ingram, a graduate assistant with a sports‑management background from the University of Indianapolis, previously earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors at Maryville University and distinguished himself as a standout player at both Maryville and Indianapolis.

Ingram’s playing career was marked by consistent scoring averages and recognition for his defensive contributions, giving him a player‑first perspective that he now brings to coaching.

Coaches and administrators alike say the new staff brings a mix of fresh ideas and seasoned insight that should help the Eagles maintain their upward trajectory in the coming seasons.

The university’s athletic director emphasized that the additions reflect a commitment to competitive excellence and the development of well‑rounded student‑athletes.
