2026 All-Long Island Baseball First Team
Newsday has announced its 2026 All-Long Island baseball first team, recognizing the standout players and coaches who defined the season across the region.
Player of the Year: CJ Alfano
CJ Alfano of St. Anthony's has been named Player of the Year after posting a .500 batting average, a .703 on‑base percentage and 13 home runs, statistics that topped the island.
Dominant Pitchers
Jaxson Torres of Plainedge finished his junior season with an 11‑0 record and a 1.03 ERA, while Joe Carey from Garden City earned the Doug Robins Diamond Award with a 9‑1 record and a 0.67 ERA. DJ Filippone from Connetquot added a 9‑1 record and a 1.60 ERA, and Max Rayburn of Center Moriches hit .491 with eight doubles and eight home runs.
Coaches of the Year
Paul Gibson Jr. of Center Moriches led the Devils to the Long Island Class B championship, Tom Sheedy of Massapequa secured the program’s 10th Class AAA title, and Shaun Manning of Long Island Lutheran guided the Crusaders to their first state baseball championship.
The selections reflect a season rich with talent, from Anthony DiNello’s defensive prowess at catcher for Massapequa to Dylan Cogliano’s Gibson Award victory and Jayden Gigante’s 35 hits and 25 stolen bases, underscoring the depth of high school baseball on Long Island.
