USA Baseball Introduces USABat Standard

The standard governs equipment used in Little League Baseball, outlining which certifications are required at each competitive level.
Scope Across Divisions
In the Major Baseball Division and all divisions below it, teams must use bats that meet the USABat specification.
Intermediate and Junior League teams have the flexibility to choose either USABat‑approved bats or those that satisfy the BBCOR standard.
At the Senior League level, all bats are required to meet the BBCOR standard, ensuring a consistent performance envelope across the highest youth competition.
The USABat rule does not extend to Little League Softball, leaving that sport’s equipment regulations unchanged.
The development of the standard involved extensive testing and collaboration among engineers, physicians and statisticians, who evaluated swing speed, ball exit velocity and durability to arrive at the specifications that now guide league play.
Manufacturers have since produced a new generation of bats bearing the USABat logo, and leagues are updating their equipment inventories to comply with the new mandate.
Coaches and parents are being educated about the change, with clinics and informational materials distributed through league channels to ensure a smooth transition.
