A season of milestones
Tyler Garbooshian, a senior at Brick Memorial High School, has been crowned the 2026 Shore Sports Insider Baseball Player of the Year, a distinction that caps a season that will be remembered as a turning point for the program.
The right‑handed slugger announced his commitment to Rutgers University before his freshman year, a decision that set the stage for a four‑year trajectory defined by relentless improvement and leadership.
Under his guidance, Brick Memorial captured its first ever NJSIAA sectional championship, added a Shore Conference Tournament title and an Ocean County Tournament victory — the first since 1996 — and compiled a 10‑game hitting streak that featured six home runs and 16 RBI.
Record‑breaking numbers
His statistical dominance was equally striking. He finished third in the Shore Conference with a .505 batting average, posted a .642 on‑base percentage and a .817 slugging percentage, while leading the league in hits (47), runs scored (50), plate appearances (134) and walks (32).
The numbers extend beyond the season: Garbooshian set new career records at Brick Memorial with 119 hits, 116 runs scored, 34 doubles, 72 walks and 61 stolen bases, cementing his place as the school’s all‑time leader in multiple categories.
His performance in the NJSIAA Tournament was equally impressive — 10 hits in 18 at‑bats, four home runs and nine RBI — showcasing his ability to elevate his game when the stakes were highest.
Beyond the box score, teammates and coaches credit Garbooshian with revitalizing the program over the past two years, turning a once‑struggling squad into a consistent contender and inspiring a culture of excellence that will endure beyond his graduation.
