Pualani Spurlock‑Welsh Takes the Helm of BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Officiating

Veteran official to lead new alliance across BIG EAST, ACC and American conferences

The BIG EAST Conference announced this week that Pualani Spurlock‑Welsh will serve as its new Supervisor of Women’s Basketball Officials, a role that places her at the center of officiating for the league and its partner conferences.

A veteran’s new mandate

Spurlock‑Welsh brings more than eighteen years of Division I experience, having presided over upwards of seventy‑five women’s basketball games each season across the BIG EAST, ACC and the American Conference.

In her expanded capacity she will supervise the entire women’s basketball officiating program for those three leagues and will spearhead a newly formalized officiating alliance that is slated for announcement later this summer.

Her résumé includes assignments at the NCAA Tournament, where she has worked seven Regionals and four Final Fours, as well as stints in the WNBA, the NBA G League and on international assignments.

Beyond the court, she was inducted into the Greenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021 and holds a bachelor’s degree from Duquesne and a master’s from Slippery Rock, where she previously served as a graduate assistant for the women’s basketball program.

ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips praised her “extensive experience and deep expertise,” while American Commissioner Tim Pernetti highlighted her “distinguished career and contributions to NCAA women’s basketball.”
