Buffaloes Secure Commitment of KJ Thomas
KJ Thomas, a former star of Randall High School, has officially pledged to join the West Texas A&M basketball program for the 2026‑27 season, adding a dynamic presence to the roster.
During his high school career the Raiders reached the state tournament in both 2023 and 2024, and Thomas was instrumental in guiding the team to a Class 4A Final Four appearance in his junior year.
His exploits at Randall earned him multiple honors, including two TABC All‑State selections, District 4‑4A Most Valuable Player, and the Amarillo Globe News Player of the Year as a junior.
At the collegiate level Thomas spent two seasons at UTEP, appearing in 55 games with 24 starts, during which he shot 40.8 % from the field and 26.5 % from beyond the arc, while pulling down 89 rebounds, dishing out 106 assists and recording 43 steals.
Coaches have highlighted his toughness and competitive edge, noting that his scoring ability — highlighted by a school‑record 50‑point game against Borger — and his knack for hitting three‑pointers, a single‑season record of 133, will complement the Buffaloes’ style of play.
Beyond the numbers, Thomas’s career totals include 2,592 points and 583 assists, marking him as one of the most prolific scorers and playmakers in Randall history.
The addition of Thomas is expected to strengthen West Texas A&M’s front‑court depth and provide a veteran spark as the program looks to build on recent progress.
