West Texas A&M men's basketball coach Tom Brown announced the addition of KJ Thomas to the program for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the Buffaloes' intent to bolster their roster with a proven playmaker.
A New Chapter for the Buffaloes
The recruit hails from Randall High School in Canyon, Texas, where he earned a reputation for skill, toughness and clutch performances on both ends of the court.
Thomas spent two seasons at UTEP, appearing in 55 games with 24 starts, and posted a shooting line of 40.8 % from the field, 26.5 % from three‑point range and 72.5 % at the free‑throw line.
During his collegiate stint he gathered 89 rebounds, 106 assists and 43 steals, numbers that reflect his all‑around contributions. Back in high school he set school records with 2,592 career points and 583 assists, while also hitting a single‑game high of 50 points against Borger on Feb. 10, 2023 and amassing 133 three‑pointers in a season.
His accolades include two TABC All‑State selections, back‑to‑back District 4‑4A Most Valuable Player honors, and the Amarillo Globe News Player of the Year during his junior year. He also guided the Raiders to the Class 4A Final Four and two State Tournament appearances.
Former Randall head coach Trevor Johnson described Thomas as the most decorated player to emerge from the school, emphasizing that he is a winner and expressing excitement about his future with the Buffaloes.
