Saint Francis football prepares for 2026 Presidents’ Athletic Conference slate

Coach Chris Villarrial eyes new rivalries as the program moves to Division III

Saint Francis University’s football program, once a Division I powerhouse, is charting a new course as it embraces Division III competition. Under head coach Chris Villarrial, who guided the team to conference championships in 2016 and 2022, the Red Wolves are poised to carry forward a legacy of hard‑nosed play.

A fresh schedule, new challenges

The 2026 campaign will consist of eight conference matchups, beginning on September 26 when the Red Wolves host Grove City. The slate includes a homecoming clash with St. Vincent on October 17 and a Halloween showdown against Bethany College.

Later in the month the team travels to Hiram on October 3 and visits Case Western Reserve on October 10, before heading to Washington & Jefferson on November 7, the defending PAC champion that finished the previous season 8‑0 in conference play.

Villarrial expressed excitement about establishing new rivalries and highlighted the staff’s success in recruiting talented players and transfer students who share the program’s physical ethos.

Western Pennsylvania remains a crucible for hard‑nosed, physical football, and the coach believes the new environment will test and sharpen his squad as they build toward future competitiveness.

Although the 2026 team will not be eligible for postseason play, Villarrial and his staff are focused on laying a foundation that can sustain success beyond the current season.
