The NCHSAA 4A West regional semifinal that was slated to feature Stuart Cramer against Burns has been delayed after a sudden medical crisis involving a member of the Stuart Cramer coaching staff.
Casey McMillen, an assistant coach for Stuart Cramer, collapsed roughly 30 minutes before the game was scheduled to begin in Lawndale. Emergency responders arrived on scene, but despite their efforts, McMillen could not be revived.
School officials from both institutions made the difficult decision to postpone the contest, moving it to Saturday at 7 p.m. The Burns High School baseball Facebook page appealed to followers for prayers for the Stuart Cramer community, reflecting the outpouring of support.
Stuart Cramer enters the postseason with its first 20‑win season in thirteen years and is pursuing its deepest playoff run in program history, making the tragedy especially poignant for the team and its supporters.
A Community in Mourning
The sudden loss of McMillen has left teammates, coaches, families and fans grappling with grief, while the broader high school sports community rallies around the affected schools.
The rescheduled matchup will now take place Saturday at 7 p.m., giving the teams a chance to honor McMillen’s memory on the field. Both schools have expressed gratitude for the condolences they have received and remain focused on supporting one another during this difficult time.
